He has also earned a living repairing all kinds of musical instruments. He formed a local Philadelphia band "The Manatees" that still plays a full time circuit of venues. His influences include many well-known artist like Bob Marley and The Beatles as well as many New Orleans artists and others like Sub-Dudes. Ray received an award from a local radio station WRDV for his version of Zachary Richard's "Zack's Bonton". You can expect to hear a variety of styles in his music - blues, gospel, reggae, cajun, country and folk. Ray is currently working on a solo album in the slot -1 studio to be released 2010 Ray Adkins is an amazing talent who inspires listeners, taking them on a transcendent musical journey with shades of Cajun, Reggae, blues, rock and folk. As co-founder of the Manatees, Adkins wrote songs and appeared on their first CD “High Water.” He left that band to pursue a solo career, currently working on releasing “Restoration” in 2010. Adkins has focused on songwriting via co-writing and songwriting roundtables. The result has been 16-20 songs that he is currently recording with a core line-up of Michael Radcliffe on bass (Robert Hazard, Flock of Seagulls and Chubby Checker) and Neil Simpkins on drums (Frank’s Soda commercial with Patty Smyth and producer/drummer for Patsy Foster’s “Long Cold War”).
